Student Counselling, Career & Development Services

What is the Aim of this Core Competence?

The Counselling Development and Quality Enhancement (CDQE) Core Competence aims to ensure that SCCDC provides a quality counselling service and internship programme.

What Specific Areas does this core competence focus on?

  • It critically appraises the quality of SCCDC's counselling service and ensures that it adheres to the guidelines of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

  • It contributes to the professional development of SCCDC staff by coordinating an in-house Continued Professional Development (CPD) programme.

  • SCCDC is a registered training facility.  This core competence therefore contributes to the training and development, supervision and evaluation of interns (e.g., Intern Psychologists, Registered Counsellors, etc).

  • To complement, reinforce and support the values, mission and goals of the NMMU.

  • To network, collaborate and foster interdependent relationships within and outside the SCCDC and NMMU.

  • To base our work on theory, research and best practice.
