The Student Counselling, Career &
Development Services Team

At the Student Counselling, Career and Development Centre (SCCDC) we aim to be a valued centre of excellence that provides sought after, institution wide, research-led counselling services and programmes that focus on optimising human potential and contributing to Higher Education Transformation by enhancing access and throughout rates. 

We play three essential roles in serving higher education and the student community, namely:

  • To support and enhance the wellness and the healthy holistic growth and development of students through co-involvement of the campus community (developmental focus)
  • To assist students in identifying and enhancing learning skills, which will assist them in effectively meeting their educational and life goals (preventative focus)
  • To provide guidance, counselling and/or therapy to students experiencing personal adjustment, career, developmental and/or psychological problems that require professional attention (remedial focus)

Our Clientele

Programmes and Services are provided to:

  • Registered Mandela University students (free)
  • Prospective learners (e.g., Grade 9, 11 & 12 learrners; Individuals employed on a full-time basis who may be keen to further their studies; Individuals keen to make a career change etc)
  • Industry (e.g, Career Counselling and Assessment for Bursary or Tuition programmes)
