Student Counselling, Career & Development Services

Below is a link to an electronic online referral form that can be used by NMMU Staff to refer NMMU students to the Student Counselling, Career and Development Centre.

 

PROCEDURE:

  • Once completing the form with the student, a notification e-mail will be sent to us. 
  • In order for us to process the request, please ensure the following:
    • The student is made aware of this referral as well as the reason for the referral.
    • That you have obtained the student's permission to make this referral.
    • The student is supplied with a printed copy of the form (completed and signed by both you and the student).
    • The student then needs to present at a Student Counselling Centre on his/her campus with the printed and signed copy of the referral form.
    • We will then assist accordingly.
    • Please note that we are unable to disclose whether or not a student has arrived for his/her first appointment until such consent is obtained from the student.

Please note that the Student Counselling, Career and Development Centre’s (SCCDC's) practice adheres to the ethical code of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).  Based on the confidentiality clause as indicated in the ethical code, SCCDC is not permitted to disclose information regarding a student to a third party without the student’s consent. 
 
 
 
 
This also applies to us divulging information about whether or not a student has arrived for their first appointment.
 
 
In the event that a student has not granted consent, and where a staff member requires feedback from SCCDC, it is recommended that the staff negotiates this request directly with the student.
 
In the event that the student grants such permission, you can decide on the format of the feedback that you would prefer e.g., verbal, telephonic, e-mail etc.  It is however preferable that you ask the student for feedback directly.
